NaNoWriMo day 1

Today begins my second attempt to win National Novel Writing Month. That means I'm going to write a 50,000 page novel in 30 days. That's approximately 1,667 words per day. Insanity? Probably. Will I do it? Let's hope so. I've had a story in me for some time and I just need to get it out. I've no idea what it'll become in the future but for now, it's going to make me a NaNoWriMo winnah!

I'm hermitish, anchoritic (not a word), bashful, whatever but I did put out a call to see if there were any other WriMos in my area. No word yet. No word yet from the municipal liason if there's a way to earn the bells and whistles (read: stickers) even if you can't get to a write-in. Stickers (and web stickers) are an easy motivator for me. Really.

I hashed out the basics of my plot outline last week. I've got my character list, my timeline, and I've done some research. More research needs to be done so I'm thinking of going to the library today and doing my first bit of writing there. I haven't decided yet. My story is set in mid-1800's California. The main character is a young Mexican woman whose mother hates her, whose father fears her, and whose nanny is the only person in the world that understands her. She's a bit of a ragamuffin, a "heathen" as her mother calls her, and the complete opposite of her sister who's managed to find a white husband and fake her way into the wealthy white world. The story follows my main character from her early teens to her late twenties; we follow her intimately as she learns the purpose of her life, and the hardships that purpose will bring.

Doesn't that sound exciting!?! Wouldn't you like to pay $14.99 for a copy? Of course you would. I'm just going to go ahead and write the thing first, then maybe we can talk about bindings and price.

I've got a little word counter thingy down in the split sidebar. You can watch my progress. Cheerleading and shouts of w00t! encouraged.

Good luck on NaNo this year! Wohoo!

I did it for 5 years and was the ML for my city for 4 (so we could get the stickers, of course), then switched to Script Frenzy for 2 years. This year I'm going to try and get 50 pages drawn this year as my home-brew NaNo (and just trying to get the blasted cookbook that much closer to finished!).

Go go gadget-wordiness!

Giggle. Is that a good cheer? I was never a cheerleader, so I'm not sure. But I think this is fabulous and I know you'll do great!
